This was possibly one of Matt Nagy’s worst coached games of his career
Dud: Matt Nagy
The biggest dud of the game without question was Matt Nagy Overall I think Matt Nagy is a very solid head coach and I feel that that the players enjoy playing for him.
That being said it may be time for him to give up the playcalling duties. His refusal to run the ball and have the QB play under the center and be frustrating as a fan. Coach Nagy is capable of having great concepts and play-designs but I feel his sequencing or scripting of these plays can leave a lot to be desired.
I was rather hard on David Montgomery earlier for his play but I believe that a lot of it can be blamed on Nagy’s playcalling. Montgomery is a more traditional back who is at his best when he is running out of a single-back or I-formation however, Nagy is constantly running it out of a shotgun set.
Matt Nagy won Coach-of-the-Year as a first-year coach in 2018. The more time that passes shows that year may have been a product of a historically good defense. Matt Nagy is an “offensive guru” yet he hasn’t been able to produce much of anything no matter who his QB is.
Final Thoughts:
Bears have a quick turnaround playing Thursday against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this game will once again be another tough test for the Bears. All in all, this was a really tough loss for the Bears, they fell victim to a Colts defense who was up to the task.
A couple of bright spots in Sunday’s game was the play of Roquan Smith who seemed to be all over the field making plays. This is a good sign for the young LB who has had his struggles so far this season. The one highlight of the offense had to be Allen Robinson who once again showed he is well-deserving of a contract extension.
Finally, I think the Bears defense as a whole played pretty well once again. They were a little bend but don’t break but the Colts really had to work to get down the field. No matter what this season is going to come down to what the offense can do, and so far they have been disappointing.
