Nick Foles is not the guy for the Chicago Bears

This overreaction is scarily close to the actual truth, but after a single full game as a starter, it’d be unfair to jump to a conclusion in regards to Nick Foles. Regardless of whether or not Foles is THE guy for the Chicago Bears, you must remember that Mitch Trubisky was not getting the job done. It’s easy to jump ship this early and say that Nagy made a bad choice with the switch, but the blame can’t be fully placed on Foles.

This was a stingy Colts defensive unit that allowed 27 points in their season opener, but buckled down and haven’t allowed more than 11 since. Unfortunately for Chicago though, they won’t be joining elite company in this respect. The teams that have performed badly offensively against the Colts have been, well, bad teams. This list includes your Chicago Bears, the New York Jets, and the Minnesota Vikings.

So while the Bears can write off their poor offensive performance this week to a strong defense, it can’t be completely excused. Foles and the rest of the offense do deserve criticism, but let’s give it a little bit more time before we pounce on this unit. He looked good against a bad defense and bad against a good defense. It’ll be interesting to see a matchup against the red-hot Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5.
