Jaylon Johnson has been unbelievably good from the start

Many people were excited about Jaylon Johnson coming into the season, but there was some fear he would not be able to play as many snaps to start the season as he was coming off shoulder surgery. With injuries to Tre Roberson and Artie Burns, the Bears were left with fewer options at cornerback to start the season.

Some fans were then surprised by the release of Kevin Toliver. After Burns went down with a season-ending injury, many thought Toliver would start the season opposite Kyle Fuller while Toliver healed and continued to learn the defense. Luckily for the Bears (and Bears fans), Johnson did not need time for either. He started Week 1 versus the Lions and supplanted himself in the starting lineup.

Honestly, Johnson has not only worked his way into the starting lineup, but he has also been dominant from the jump. You can tell the speed of the game is not a problem for him. Johnson has yet to record an interception, but outside of the deep ball to Zach Pascal last week, quarterbacks have had trouble completing passes while targeting Johnson.

Throughout four games, Johnson has been targeted 29 times. He has only allowed 12 completions for a 41.4 percent completion percentage. He has seven pass deflections, 16 tackles and quarterbacks only have a 63.7 quarterback rating while throwing in his direction. He is looking the part of a lockdown corner and I think seeing him do what he has done this early is a big (but great) surprise.
