Would the Chicago Bears trading for Sam Darnold make sense?
By Joseph Herff
Why Sam Darnold?
For starters, Sam Darnold is extremely young. He is in his third year in the NFL and he is only 23 years old. He is younger than rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. He shouldn’t be sold as a horrible quarterback at only 23 years old.
Darnold additionally has shown a lot of flashes. He looks great a lot of times. This sounds eerily familiar to Mitchell Trubisky, but the Bears would be treating this scenario much differently.
If the Bears traded for Darnold, he would be sitting behind Nick Foles for at least one year learning the offense and learning how to run the system behind a Super Bowl MVP in the same system. This could be very good for his development and could help the Bears find their quarterback of the future without trading up to a top-five pick.
With Trubisky’s time in Chicago likely done, Darnold could be the solution that the Bears thought they had in Trubisky.
