Matt Nagy could’ve called a much better game for the Chicago Bears

Dud: Matt Nagy

Matt Nagy and his inconsistent playcalling was once again a frustration from this game, specifically down the stretch. I thought he did a much better job overall of featuring promising running-back David Montgomery. However, in the fourth quarter, he seemed to completely abandon the running game.

Montgomery got 19 total carries on Sunday, which isn’t bad but only got five rushes in the fourth quarter. In Nagy’s defense the Chicago Bears rush offense hasn’t been good at all this season, that continued in this game.

Montgomery was only able to rack up 58 yards and the Bears as a whole only had 63. So while it is understandable that you would rather pass, when you’re trying to wind down the game clock running is the way to go whether it’s working or not.

The Chicago Bears, and Nagy in particular, was giving this Carolina Panthers team extra chances with their play-calling down the stretch. I have defended Matt Nagy throughout his tenure but at some point, he needs to be held accountable for his play-calling duties. Again I’m not calling for his head, but maybe for his play-sheet.
