The defense won this game for the Chicago Bears this week

MVP: The defense

This Chicago Bears defense has shown once again why they’re regarded as one of the top units in the entire NFL. Coming into this game one of the most intriguing matchups for me was the Bears defensive backs vs the Panthers wide receivers.

For the most part, they were held in check, Anderson got a good chunk of his yardage towards the end of the game, and D.J. Moore only got five of his 11 targets. This Bears pass rush got in on four sacks and created four turnovers.

Teddy Bridgewater didn’t look very good at all in this game. Throwing two picks, and only having a 50. 3 passer rating. Roquan Smith was someone who seemed like they were all over the field every play. I think Smith got off to a slower start this year but the last few games have played great.

Smith was able to get 12 total tackles, a TFL, and a pass deflection, a dominant performance by the rising star. We already talked about how good Jaylon Johnson was and I think Tashaun Gipson had a very solid game himself, getting the interception and another pass deflection.

This defense is a force to be reckoned with and it’s looking like they will be good enough to carry them to a playoff birth in 2020.

Final thoughts:

I thought Nick Foles started off well and definitely had some moments throughout the game but for the most part, was borderline mediocre. The offensive line can be considered a dud every week and this week was no different. Allowing no running lanes for the backs, and giving up nine QB hits. Offensively the Chicago Bears have work to do but you can’t complain about 5-1.
