4. Oday Aboushi, Lions

The big issue here is obviously a trade within the division. However, that should not stop the Lions from doing something smart. Of course, expecting the Lions to do something smart may be why this is our number four trade possibility.

The fact of the matter is that the Lions are three games behind Green Bay and Chicago and have lost to both. If they lose the next two games before the deadline, they need to sell. Oday Aboushi is not some player that they should hold onto for the sake of principle.

The Lions have a logjam at guard right now with rookie Jonah Jackson, Tyrell Crosby, Halapoulvatti Vaitai, and Joe Dahl.

Vaitai and Jackson are a draft pick and free-agent signing. However, Jackson is splitting time at left guard with Dahl while Vaitai has moved around from RG to RT while also being injured. On Sunday, they played Aboush, Vaitai, and Jackson at right guard.

At some point, Detroit needs to keep their rookie in one spot and needs to stop rotation at both guard spots.

They need to move on from one of Aboushi or Joe Dahl. Dahl is 27 and signed on for 2021, while Aboushi is 29 and a free agent. It would truly be for the better if the Lions could move Aboushi, use Dahl as their swing lineman, and start Vaitai and Jackson at their guard spots.

The Bears should be interested in Aboushi, who has bounced around the NFL since 2013 but has started at four different line spots. His veteran presence and versatility would be a great addition if the Lions are smart enough to move on.
