Quinton Spain recently got cut by the Buffalo Bills

Veteran left guard Quinton Spain recently got released by the Buffalo Bills. The release became known by a tweet by Spain himself as he tweeted it was “time for a change.” The Chicago Bears need to get on the horn and call Spain’s agent before it might be too late.

Spain went undrafted out West Virginia in 2015 eventually earning a full-time starting job in Tennessee in 2015. He was a full-time starter every year in Tennessee before joining the Bills and starting all 16 games for them. He earned a contract extension in March worth $15 million over three seasons.

The 29-year old guard started the first two weeks this season for the Bills but saw himself benched for the next two games. He then didn’t play in the last two games with a foot injury. It seems that the Chicago Bears recruiter is already on it.

Why should the Chicago Bears go after Spain?

With the recent injury to James Daniels, the Chicago Bears clearly have a hole at left guard. Rashaad Coward got worked all game in both the run and pass game being dominated by a weak Carolina Panthers front seven. He was a major reason why the Bears could not get the run game going against the Panthers.

Spain may not be the best-run blocker in the NFL, but he is undoubtedly an outstanding pass blocker. In the past two years, Spain has not allowed a single sack. Due to the dead cap, he is receiving from the Bills, Spain could come cheap on a one-year deal as a rental to fill for the injured Daniels.

If the Bears truly want to make a push for the playoffs, they would be foolish not to call up a veteran guard who will immediately make their offensive line much better. Their run game has too many issues to instantly improve, but Spain would make an immediate impact as a pass-blocker.
