The New England Patriots could possibly call the Chicago Bears

Let me first start out by saying, any of these teams could choose to just focus on finding a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. That said, none of them will be in contention for Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. They will have to love Trey Lance or another quarterback like Kyle Trask or rising quarterback Zach Wilson. However, it is possible one of these teams decides to take a shot on a quarterback who may be inconsistent but is young, athletic finds ways to win.

That’s right, I am referring to Mitch Trubisky. Systems matter in the NFL when it comes to quarterbacks. How many people wrote Drew Brees off? A switch to the New Orleans Saints made Brees a possible future Hall of Famer. What about Ryan Tannehill? He was viewed as a bust in Miami and now he has helped lead the Titans to a playoff run in 2019 followed by a 5-0 start to the 2020 season.

Mitch Trubisky may be inconsistent, but he has shown flashes. If paired with the right coach, in the right system, maybe he too could find a way to flourish. Right now, the New England Patriots have Cam Newton on a one-year deal. Newton hasn’t played poorly, but he too has been somewhat inconsistent as the Patriots find themselves 2-3 on the season.

The one game that Cam Newton missed was nothing short of a disaster. Brian Hoyer threw an interception and Jarrett Stidham added another two more. Both looked bad in a loss to the Chiefs. Newton has looked better, but do the Patriots expect to re-sign him to a multi-year deal?

If the Patriots were to trade for Mitch Trubisky (say with a fourth-round pick), they’d have a better backup in 2020 and Trubisky can learn from one of the best coaches in the NFL. Seems like a move the Patriots would make too. Bring in a guy people thought was done (like say Newton) and then show him how to succeed the Patriots way. Chicago Bears fans would go nuts if Mitch Trubisky was dominating all of a sudden in New England.
