Chicago Bears fill glaring holes with three-round 2021 mock draft
By Joseph Herff
Round 3, Pick No. 93
Just months ago, quarterback Zach Wilson was only expected to be a day three draft pick. Now just a few weeks into the season, he is being discussed as a potential Heisman candidate.
Wilson has had a rise this season similar to Joe Burrow of last season. He virtually came out of nowhere flashing traits that remind scouts and fans alike of some elite NFL quarterbacks. Only a junior, Wilson may not enter the draft immediately, but if his stock soars enough as it has already, he may just enter the draft.
Currently, Wilson has BYU ranked higher than it has ever been in the past decade. They are ranked 12 and Wilson is the main reason for that. Wilson has completed 78.7% of his passes for 1,641, 12 touchdowns, and only one interception. His name is being mentioned already as a Heisman candidate for this season.
I completely doubt Wilson will be a third-round pick this year. Some mock drafts already have him as a first and second-round pick, but this mock had his value as a third so I took the value. Wilson may be a little undersized, but he checks every other box in terms of a quarterback. His deep ball touch, confidence, arm strength, and athletic ability are just some of these traits.
Wilson fits perfectly into this Bears offense. He can sit a year behind Foles learning the offense and learning the playbook while also gaining some valuable insight from a former Super Bowl MVP. He can be treated much like how Alex Smith treated Patrick Mahomes before he took over in 2018.
Clearly, it is still very early, but it doesn’t hurt to look for potential players the Bears can target in their draft. The Bears are definitely keeping their eyes on college players even though it is the middle of the season, so the fans should too.
