Nick Foles told ESPN that he sometimes questions the Chicago Bears play calls

Welp, the Chicago Bears went from tied for first in the NFC to barely in the playoffs if the playoffs started today. We knew this team was not as good as other teams near the top of the conference, but this showing was just awful. The Chicago Bears offense scored three points — three. Going into this game, the Bears had a +12 point differential, now the team has a -2 point differential. Not good.

During the broadcast, ESPN announcer Brian Griese stated that Nick Foles told him that sometimes he knows a play will not work because he won’t have enough time to make a throw. That is not a good sign and could Foles and Matt Nagy not be getting along as well as many thought?

This comment is a bigger shot on the offensive line than Matt Nagy

Here’s the thing, this comment should be hurting the feelings of the offensive line and Ryan Pace more than it should Matt Nagy. When I read these words, I feel the frustration that is coming from Nick Foles’ lips. He is tired of getting hit and hit hard behind the line of scrimmage. The offensive line has been bad once again and Ryan Pace better find a way to fix it quickly if the team wants to make the playoffs and dare I say it, a Super Bowl run.

The offensive line lost James Daniels and that was a big blow. Alex Bars stepped in for the rest of that game and did not look great. The problem is, Rashad Coward stepped in the next game and has not looked any better. In fact, he’s looked worse. We have mentioned some names like Quentin Spain who Pace should be calling on and adding to the roster.

Now, this does not allow Matt Nagy to get off the hook. He did not have a good game from a play-calling standpoint. Sean McVay schooled him and looked like the older brother who just dominates his younger brother. This cannot happen and Nagy must be better.

When you see a flaw in your personnel, you must do something to help. This could be adjusting the play calls to include quicker throws. If Nick Foles gets the ball out sooner, the offensive line has to block less. This limits the deep throws, but it is okay to throw a quick slant for seven to nine yards. Sometimes those can even go to the house (watch the Chiefs). Nagy should also be running more misdirection plays and even screens when blitzes are identified pre-snap.

If the back and forth between Nagy and Foles continues, could we see Mitch Trubisky back under center? I was irritated there was not a switch in the Rams game to just see if a spark could happen, but there is one thing I never heard Trubisky do — make a comment like Foles did that could be implied to include direct criticism of Nagy’s system. Not good. This can all be fixed though if Ryan Pace makes a move or two and brings in some offensive line help.
