Although he opted out in 2020, Jamie Newman could still be the guy in 2021

This brings us to our ninth and final option. Should the Bears keep Foles and look to draft a rookie quarterback somewhat early, I would not be surprised if one of these quarterbacks overtakes Foles’ job prior to the start of the 2021 season. This will depend on the COVID-19 pandemic, but still, Foles is not a long-term answer.

One of the rookie quarterbacks I cannot get a good gauge of which round he may go in is Jamie Newman. Had Newman not opted out of the 2020 season with the Georgia Bulldogs, I think he could have pushed to be a first-round pick. That said, I always saw him more as a Day 2 guy. Without being able to see his tape with a more consistent and better overall offense, we must look at his numbers and tape from Wake Forest.

Trubisky better be ready for Week 8. dark. Next

I had hoped to see Newman take the Burrow-type leap in 2020. I would not have expected him to be as good as Burrow was last year, but I was hoping for some significant progress. At Wake Forest last year, Newman threw 26 touchdowns , 11 interceptions and rushed for another six scores. He also only averaged 239 yards. I know not everyone agrees with me, but as of right now I think he’s a third or fourth-round pick at best. This could have changed had he played.
