They did not pursue him this offseason, but Jameis Winston could be an option

Once again, if the Chicago Bears choose to bring in a veteran backup (or potential replacement) for Nick Foles in 2020, Jameis Winston could be that guy. The Bears did not seem to have an interest in Winston and he signed a one-year deal with the Saints to back up Drew Brees. If the Saints do not retain Winston in 2021 or Winston is offered more money elsewhere (say Chicago), he could be on the move again.

Not many people wanted Winston this offseason. I was on record saying I thought he would make a good addition. He is not the ideal fit in Matt Nagy’s offense, but he knows how to sling the football. And guess what, with a defense like the Chicago Bears, I can live with a large number of interceptions as long as he is also scoring 30+ touchdowns per year as he has done in the past.

Clearly, Sean Payton saw something in Winston to bring him in as a backup. That said, he came in on a very cheap deal. What would it take for Winston to consider coming to Chicago instead? Honestly, if the team was not so heavily invested in the position with Trubisky and Foles already, I’d advocate trading for Winston too. That said, the deal is cheap enough, maybe the Bears can make the move anyway. Probably too expensive, but this team needs an offensive spark bad.
