The Chicago Bears catch a break heading into Week 8 vs Saints

As the game versus the New Orleans Saints approached, news of a possible return of All-Pro wide receiver Michael Thomas was looming. This was at the same time as the Chicago Bears could be hindered by some major injuries of their own.

Fortunately for the Bears, and unfortunately for the Saints and Michael Thomas, reports came out today that Thomas will not suit up this Sunday. With rumors of the Chicago Bears possibly being without Khalil Mack, Cordarelle Patterson and Cody Whitehair, this news is somewhat of a blessing for the team that was embarrassed versus the Rams last Monday night.

The only problem is that this game is not looking good for the Chicago Bears. The Saints defense is not a world beater, but the Bears offense is worse. The only way the Bears have a shot at winning this game is if the defense finds a way to generate turnovers and possibly even score.

With the loss to the Rams, the Chicago Bears now have a negative point differential. That is a direct correlation to the Bears offense not being able to put up points. In fact, if not for Eddie Jackson and the defense scoring last week versus the Rams, the Bears would have left Monday night without a touchdown. If the defense cannot win the turnover battle, the Bears are toast.

The Chicago Bears still face a tough test

Honestly, I am concerned that winning the turnover battle won’t even be enough. The Chicago Bears defense has not done well versus the run and watching the missed tackles last week was nothing short of disappointment. This team looks similar to 2018 but with an even worse offense.
Now, the Bears will face their toughest test yet — Alvin Kamara. Saquan Barkley would be included here if not for his knee injury forcing him to miss most of the game in Week 2. Behind Kamara is a very capable Latavius Murray.

As nervous as I was about the Bears going into the Rams game last week, I feel even worse this week. I am honestly expecting a blowout and anything better than that will be a pleasant surprise.
