The Chicago Bears should make a statement and cut Javon Wims

The game wound up close despite the team going up 10 points in the second quarter. However, a late second-quarter drive by the Saints put the game within three heading into the half with literally only three seconds left on the clock. It was discouraging after the Chicago Bears defense had been solid throughout the rest of the half.

Luckily, the Chicago Bears were able to find a way to tie the game and put it into overtime. Unfortunately, it just delayed the inevitable. The team was not able to secure a victory and after a 5-1 start, the Bears are now 5-3 on the season. The loss was a black spot on the Bears 2020 season, but it was not the only black spot in this one game.

Javon Wims was ejected from the game for essentially sucker-punching Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

The fight broke out as Wims was defending another Chicago Bears receiver

At first glance, this move looked like it came out of nowhere. Gardner-Johnson had been running his mouth throughout most of the game, but no one deserves to be hit the way Wims hit Gardner-Johnson just for a little smack talk. It turns out that there was more to the story. Wims was standing up for his teammate. Looking back at it, Gardner-Johnson started things by poking Anthony Miller.

The thing is, JJ Stankevitz is right. Miller used proper retaliation (shockingly) on Gardner-Johnson. Apparently, that was not enough for Javon Wims though. Since Wims is only playing on 29 percent of the Bears offensive snaps, cutting him would not be like cutting Allen Robinson. Personally, I would probably have benched Robinson for the year, but I am an extremist when it comes to that type of selfish behavior.

The team should use Wims as an example. There is no room for this type of behavior and he just needs to go. I understand he was standing up for his teammate, but that is not enough of an excuse. Wims should be off the team before the NFL trade deadline comes and goes on Tuesday. In fact, moving on from Wims will give the team an additional roster spot to fill that is much needed. This team needs to make a move for at least one if not two offensive linemen.
