The Chicago Bears can use a big man upfront on defense too
We spoke about Dalvin Tomlinson a couple of times here at BearGogglesOn and here we are again. Tomlinson just makes a great deal of sense. He is still relatively young and would fit this defense nicely. The Chicago Bears defense has not been great versus the run. Alvin Kamara averaged 5.7 yards-per-carry on Sunday. This is not good enough and we expect more of this defense as the offense continues to sputter.
With Eddie Goldman out this season, because he chose to opt-out due to COVID-19, the team needs to find a bigger man who can stuff the middle and eat up blockers to keep the linebackers free. Tomlinson can be that guy. He is 6’3″ and 317 pounds. He is not a pass rusher as he only has one sack on the year, but that is not why you trade for a guy like Tomlinson anyway.
As much as I am not big on Pro Football Focus (PFF), they have Tomlinson graded out at 79.8 at this point in the season. I also do not see him costing much in draft capital. Plus, with him being in the final year of his contract the Bears could probably get him for a sixth-round pick.
Final Thoughts:
The Chicago Bears may not need to trade with the Giants, but they need to trade with someone. If they do not, it is an indication they do not believe in the team. Whether that is coming from Ryan Pace or George McCaskey, moving forward with just this team is not enough to make a strong playoff run.
