The backup wide receiver option would be John Ross

If the Chicago Bears do not want to give up the amount of draft capital needed for A.J. Green, another option they could consider is John Ross. Ross has been pushed down the Bengals depth chart despite having a somewhat decent start to his career in his sophomore and junior seasons in the NFL. Like Anthony Miller, Ross saw seven touchdowns in 2018 despite only gaining 210 yards. Ross flipped that in 2019 by gaining 506 yards but only scoring three times.

Ross has had some issues with drops, but maybe a change in scenery will help. Ross was the seventh-overall pick in 2017 and has talent. He is a guy that I would easily throw a late-round pick at the Bengals for in order to try and help spark this offense. He would instantly push Anthony Miller for playing time and likely push Ted Ginn off the team.

Ross is also in the final year of his contract, but he comes much cheaper than A.J. Green. He is honestly the receiver I would target if I had to choose between him and Green. Not that I think he’s more talented, I just think he adds more value based on the cost it will take to land him.

Final Thoughts:

As I keep saying, this team must get out there and make some moves. I would prefer they buy into themselves and buy into the fact they are actually a playoff team. By doing this, it also means Pace should be trading to improve the roster. I am not talking first-round or even second-round draft picks involved here, that is not what is needed. However, doing nothing infuriates me. I’d rather the team sell a few assets than do absolutely nothing before the trade deadline.
