Kicking the can on DeShone Kizer makes sense for the Chicago Bears

How about a former second-round draft pick that has not panned out at this point in the NFL? DeShone Kizer is a former Notre Dame quarterback who had great success in college. While playing for the Fighting Irish, Kizer threw 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over a two-year span. His completion percentage was not the best, but he found ways to put up points.

Kizer was selected 52nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2017 (the same year as the Chicago Bears selected Mitch Trubisky). He did not pan out while in Cleveland though as he finished his rookie season with a 0-15 record, 11 touchdowns and a league-leading 22 interceptions. Yikes.

Then why would I want him here in Chicago? One, he played for the Packers in 2018 as a backup to Aaron Rodgers. Although it is a new regime up north, maybe he can bring some behind the scenes insight before the Bears play the Packers twice this season. Maybe more importantly, with how bad this Chicago Bears offensive line has been, a dual-threat quarterback might be needed and more important right now.

Kizer gained 419 yards and five touchdowns his rookie season. He should be given an opportunity and the Chicago Bears need to keep his number on speed dial.
