Chicago Bears: 4 Changes that must be made after the season
By Joseph Herff
Fire Matt Nagy, Hire Eric Bienemy or Greg Roman
Matt Nagy needs to go. Plain and simple. I could write a novel as to why Nagy needs to be fired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. The easiest way to explain it is how embarrassing the offense has been for the Bears while he has been the head coach. He has thrown multiple people under the bus and nothing has changed. He is the root of all of the Bears’ problems.
After 2018, Nagy threw Cody Parkey and Jordan Howard under the bus. He blamed the kicker for not making the playoffs and Howard for the lack of run game.
After 2019, Nagy threw his entire staff and Mitch Trubisky under the bus. He fired almost everyone on his staff for a lack of run game and identity on offense. He additionally put Trubisky on a short leash because Nagy could not navigate a good offense.
Finally, we are now in 2020 and Nagy once again threw Trubisky under the bus. He has his running back, he has his brand new staff, and he has his quarterback. He’s out of options. It’s on him.
Enough about Nagy. Both Eric Bienemy and Greg Roman are two great head coach candidates for this Bears’ team in 2021. Bienemy has taken over playcalling in Kansas City because of how well he has been doing and it paid off by winning a Super Bowl. His scheme is similar to Nagy’s in that it wouldn’t take much turnover on offense and much change.
Roman became the offensive coordinator in Baltimore to build a scheme for Lamar Jackson. In his first season, Jackson won the MVP looking almost perfect in his scheme and led the Ravens to a 14-2 record. He is great at scheming his team around players.
Either of these two would be great for the future for the Bears. They need to change their offense so an offensive-minded head coach would help greatly.
