Round 2, Pick No. 50

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Alabama. MacJones. QB. 50. player. 829

The quarterback class this season is very top-heavy. Some draft analysts have even six quarterbacks going in the first round. Mac Jones at the moment is the sixth man in the top-heavy quarterback class, but he has been climbing draft boards greatly since becoming the full-time starter this season after Tua Tagovailoa graduated.

The Crimson Tide quarterback is not like most Alabama quarterbacks before him. Most of these quarterbacks, like A.J. McCarron, are mainly game managers whose game does not translate to the next level well. They don’t have any elite traits and make the easy throws to their unbelievable playmakers at Alabama with all the time in the world behind their unstoppable offensive line.

Jones looks to be different so far. This season, Jones has completed 78.5% of his passes for 2,196 yards (12.4 yards/attempt), 16 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. In comparison, Jones has a higher completion percentage, passer rating, and yards/attempt than Tua had last season for Alabama.

What makes Jones different than most quarterbacks is his amazing ability to process the whole field and make decisions. He then uses his elite accuracy to make great decisions which explain his extremely high completion percentage.

Jones can sit a year behind Nick Foles or sit behind him until Foles loses his job like he normally does. Once he is ready to take over, he can and can take his time in doing so.
