Lamar Miller has yet to be pulled up to the Chicago Bears active roster

This past Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears’ starting running back David Montgomery suffered a concussion and left the game early because of it. This led to an increased role for rarely used running back Ryan Nall who took advantage of his opportunities. He finished the game catching all four of his targets for 35 yards and a touchdown.

With Montgomery out, all the Bears have available on their active roster is mainly Ryan Nall and Cordarelle Patterson. They also have Artavis Pierce, but he is inactive most gamedays and has not registered an NFL carry yet.

Lamar Miller could help this Chicago Bears rushing attack

With the Bears’ current running back depth, they should be considering pulling up veteran running back Lamar Miller from the practice squad for their upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings. Relying on Nall and Patterson is not a recipe for success as Nall has limited NFL work and Patterson is a recently converted wide receiver.

Miller missed all of 2019 with a torn ACL and couldn’t find a team to stick with after becoming a free agent in 2020. He finally signed with the Bears’ practice squad back at the beginning of October.

Before suffering his knee injury, Miller had a Pro Bowl season for the Houston Texans rushing for 973 yards (4.6 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He additionally had 163 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. Although those stats don’t pop out, he had limited work as he only played in 14 games and split work with receiving back Duke Johnson.

Miller has been in the league since 2012 and has produced every year outside of his rookie season. He is a great running back that may not have the juice he once had, but he has the vision and ability to lead this backfield in Montgomery’s absence.

At least, the Bears need to bring up Miller for depth purposes. Don’t be surprised if he is activated from the practice squad for their Monday Night Football showdown against the Vikings.
