If Matt Nagy gives up play-calling, will the Chicago Bears push for a Super Bowl?

It has been a very difficult three weeks for the Chicago Bears. Sunday’s loss against the Titans was their third in a row making this a rapid descent for the team. Against the Titans, the defense was Super Bowl quality. Then there was the offense at the Toilet Bowl level. They scored just three points in the first 55 minutes of the game.

However, a silver lining may have emerged for this Bears team that has a big heart but does not have a true offensive identity. The sign of hope is a matter of context. Context is important when seeking clarity about what is hiding in the shadows. In this case, the shadows are Matt Nagy’s flawed play-calling and his offensive schemes. His flaws have been hiding whether his team is a serious playoff team or not.

What we do know is that Chicago Bears General Manager, Ryan Pace, acquired men of high character. Nagy took these men and created very tight-knit chemistry among them. This resulted in a team that as a whole will flash an indomitable will at critical junctures in a game.

However, this resolve can melt away for players on offense when Nagy does not trust them enough to handle more than a few plays that involve some calculated risks. So the small ray of light buried in a deep dark cave for the Bears is the possibility that Matt Nagy will give up his play-calling duties at least for a period of time. This will take a fair amount of courage for him to do as it will probably be one of the hardest things he has ever done in his life.
