Just how far can the Chicago Bears go this season?

The big question Bears fans want to know is how far can this team go this season. This is where context helps remove some shadows. The Bears beat the Bucs by one point with an inconsistent, yet ultimately gutsy effort. They also took the Saints to overtime, while the Saints just beat the Bucs by five whole touchdowns.

Basically, the Bears went toe to toe with two of the top teams in the NFC while they, figuratively, had one arm tied behind their back. That is, of course, being the offensive arm of the team. The sky is the limit for the Bears if the offense maximized its talent instead of trying to force some square pegs into round holes. Now picture Nick Foles‘ animated sideline discussion with Matt Nagy during the Bucs game.

The Chicago Bears defense probably played their best game of the season against the Titans. Not coincidentally, Chuck Pagano had his best game as the Bears defensive play-caller. The reason it was probably their best game is that their biggest weakness going into this game had a great game. Nobody expected them to hold the freight train known as Derrick Henry to 68 yards which included one 26-yard run.

Here is a little more context. The Chicago Bears beat the Panthers by containing Teddy Bridgewater who just had a very good game against the Chiefs. The Panthers were a last-second field goal shy of beating the Super Bowl winning Chiefs who have eight wins and one loss.

There is another big plus for the Bears defense. Against the Titans, their most vocal leader, Danny Trevathan, had his 2020 breakout game after his serious elbow injury in 2019. With this major piece being filled in these dudes are ready to rock and roll.

Given that the NFC this season does not have a clearly dominant team, the Chicago Bears would have a very good, maybe great, chance to win the NFC with a just a good, not great, offense. There might even be some greatness inside this offense if given a genuine chance to be great.

After all, this Bears offense is the first one in NFL history to overcome two 16 point deficits in the fourth quarter in a single season. They also did this using two different quarterbacks. Yet unless this change with Nagy takes place, none of us will ever find out just how good this 2020 Bears team really could be.

Yes, Bears fans your team could be one, gutsy, change away from not just saving this season but also enabling your team to be a true contender. The top seven teams of the NFC, not including the Bears, are the Saints, Bucs, Seahawks, Rams, Cardinals, and the Panthers. All of these teams have either been beaten by the Bears or have flaws that the Bears are quite capable of exploiting.
