The Chicago Bears take literally a big position of need

The Chicago Bears have two huge needs heading into 2021. The team needs a new quarterback and the team needs to invest in its offensive line. Specifically speaking, the team needs two new tackles. The problem here is that is not likely to happen in the draft. However, locking in one new tackle is an absolute must.

With the quarterbacks off the board at 16, the Chicago Bears select offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw out of Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech is not known too well for producing offensive linemen, but Darrisaw has been shooting up draft boards and looks to be a plug-and-play type of guy. This is exactly what the Bears need. Most likely Charles Leno will be kept in 2021 over Bobby Massie and this will leave an open path for Darrisaw to start at either left or right tackle.

Darrisaw stands at 6’5″ and weighs in at 311 pounds. Darrisaw is an excellent run blocker. You hardly ever see him standing alone and not blocking someone (ahem, Rashaad Coward). He does a great job getting to the second and even third levels sometimes while blocking. Darrisaw has a solid balance that allows him to take on power but hold the pocket (unlike Charles Leno in most games). He needs to continue to work on his footwork during pass blocking.

Overall, this is a great pick and someone who is needed to help turn this offense into a more modern, high-scoring machine.
