Chicago Bears: 4 Decisions George McCaskey must make after loss to Vikings
George McCaskey needs to look in the mirror and essentially fire himself
Obviously, George McCaskey is not going to step down as Chairman of the Chicago Bears. However, what he can do is remove himself from making personnel decisions. With Ted Phillips now out of the picture, McCaskey should look to others for advice on who to hire to replace Phillips. Then, he should let that person, hopefully, someone with a true football mind, to hire the next general manager.
This is what would be best not only for the team but also for himself. The fan base has been headhunting the McCaskeys for years now. Imagine if George was the one who found a way to right the ship and turns this organization back into a perennial contender?
Not that I wish Virginia McCaskey any harm, but she is not a spring chicken and I would not be shocked if she is trying to hold out to see her team hoist the Lombardi Trophy one more time. George would be in seventh Heaven if he was the guy to bring that joy to his mother.
To recap, today, not tomorrow, George McCaskey needs to make the decision to essentially clean house. Not all of these moves need to be immediate, but they must happen between now and the start of the 2021 season. Unfortunately, I think McCaskey is going to let Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy finish out the final year of their contracts in 2021 and for some reason, Phillips will remain President and CEO until he chooses to step down himself. What a shame.
