Chicago Bears: 6 Probable salary-cap cuts if team rebuilds in 2021
What about Charles Leno getting the boot from the Chicago Bears?
Finally, here is a potential cap casualty that fans can get behind. Charles Leno has regressed from year to year since signing his contract extension in 2017. It appears the Chicago Bears are okay with not investing in the offensive tackle position as they continue to roll out Leno and Bobby Massie despite the offensive line being relatively bad the last few years. Instead, just like Leno, the Bears keep counting on late-round draft picks and undrafted free agents.
This would be a perfect spot for the “It’s a bold strategy, Cotton” meme. The thing is, we know how it has worked for the Chicago Bears and the answer is not well. Instead, the Bears continue to have a horrible run game (bottom in the league) and allow teams to sack or at least constantly pressure the quarterback.
Leno is due just over $11 million dollars in 2021, making him the sixth-highest cap hit on the Chicago Bears roster next year. He does not deserve this kind of money unfortunately and the Chicago Bears could cut him and save just over $6 million dollars. The reason I think he might stick around is that the team does not have anyone to replace him. I could see him being pushed to right tackle though and that brings us to the next name on the list.
