Chicago Bears: 5 Offensive linemen to target in 2021 NFL Draft
By Joseph Herff
Jalen Mayfield, Offensive Tackle, Michigan
Height: 6′ 5″ | Weight: 319 lbs | Class: RS – Soph.
Projection: Mid Round 1
Despite only playing one season at Michigan, Jalen Mayfield declared for the NFL Draft when the Big 10 initially said the fall football season would be canceled. He is now playing this season, but even after his one season, his draft stock was extremely high.
Mayfield came to Michigan very undersized. He put on weight early on and still can move extremely well even with his put on weight. He is excellent in anything that involves him getting into open space or allowing him to get to the second level on a block with his athletic ability.
Much like Cosmi, Mayfield is excellent in pass blocking and a solid run blocker, but he isn’t a body mover. He lacks the strength right now to move players. That doesn’t take away from his run blocking though as he executes his blocks extremely well and creates holes. Like Cosmi as well, he would be a good project to build some strength behind Leno as he finishes his contract with the Chicago Bears.
