Jameis Winston would make an intriguing option for the Chicago Bears

After testing free agency this season to earn a big contract, Jameis Winston saw first-hand he wasn’t as valuable as he thought. As he said, he expected nearly $30 million from a team after his record-breaking 33 touchdowns and 30 interception season, he found himself as the third-string quarterback earning less than $2 million and sitting behind gadget-player Taysom Hill when Drew Brees went down.

This isn’t to say Winston is a bad quarterback. I’m sure that Sean Payton wanted to prove that Taysom Hill is their guy and can be a successful quarterback in the NFL and Hill looked the part in their last game. Winston just happens to be stuck behind a future Hall-of-Famer and Payton’s favorite player of all time Hill.

Outside of the jokes and memes, Winston is a polarizing quarterback. Last season as the full-time starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston threw for over 5,000 yards and even with all of those interceptions, he still posted an 84 passer rating.

Winston needs to learn he doesn’t have to do it all when he has a good team. He truly was by himself the entire time he played for Tampa Bay. Once Tampa Bay sent him off, they decided to build a solid defense and a great offensive line.

The soon-to-be 27-year-old could at least be a solid depth option if he remains cheap. He is a solid guy to have with a rookie and Foles since Foles is injury prone and the Bears may not want to throw their rookie into a potential dumpster fire if the Bears are rebuilding next season.
