The Chicago Bears must retool the offense and not blow things up and rebuild

There is a difference between blowing up this team and starting from scratch versus retooling this team — specifically the offense. With the way the salary cap is going to affect the next few seasons, the Chicago Bears need to cut bait with some dead weight.

The biggest dead weight and probably the easiest cut the team must make is Buster Skrine. Skrine has been the biggest liability on defense this season. He has let up five touchdowns this season. When it comes to the offense, Bobby Massie and Charles Leno stand out to me as the biggest dead weight. It might be hard to cut both, but at least one of them must be gone. Massie would be my first choice, but honestly, I’d be fine with removing both and saving $13 million dollars.

Even with how upset I am right now, this team is still filled with plenty of talent, but not enough in critical areas. Khalil Mack is not tradable. Robert Quinn is not tradable. Their contracts will not allow them to be traded. Mitch Trubisky will be gone. Allen Robinson should be allowed to walk at this point because he no longer wants to be here. To help soften the blow, the Bears can bring in one of these other free agents next year.

To help retool the offense, the Chicago Bears’ new regime will need to focus on both key free-agent acquisitions and also the 2021 NFL Draft.
