Ted Phillips should be the first to go

Just firing these coaches won’t change much. It is a constant cycle currently of coaches coming in by the same team president who fail. Who keeps hiring them though? Ted Phillips. He’s the guy in charge of hiring the general managers. He has failed at doing that job as his career stats as President of the Chicago Bears is quite horrible.

Phillips has been the President since 1999. In his time frame, the Bears have made the playoffs seven times. They have three playoff victories under his careful watch. He has brought in horrible general managers for the most part who have brought in horrible coaches. They sometimes got lucky with guys like Lovie Smith, but even the Bears sent Smith packing after a 10-6 season.

The Bears need to replace Phillips with a football mind immediately, or frankly restructure their entire team. Chris Ballard, general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, has done a fine job there. He was a candidate to take over competing with Ryan Pace for the job. He said he only would with a restructure and not have to report to Phillips. The Bears did not change. They went with Pace and look at how it has turned out.

I’m never a person to hope for somebody to lose their job, but when someone is horrible at their job and it’s hindering the rest of the business (in this case the Bears), they need to be let go. It’s now time to hope for 2021 and pray we have a high enough pick to get a quarterback early in the next draft.

For all we know, maybe the Bears can bounce back next season with a new head coach, general manager, and team president since they retain most of this defense next season as well. A few moves can make the Bears contenders with real coaches and better personnel decisions.
