The Chicago Bears need to create this new front office position
The Chicago Bears should make a new position specifically for Peyton Manning
Ted Phillips has been in the spotlight lately and not in a good way. Chicago Bears analysts and fans alike are calling for the removal of Phillips. Instead of removing Phillips as team President, the Chicago Bears should look into creating a new front office position. Many other teams operate in a way that separates the President from handling football operations and business operations. The Chicago Bears need to get with the times and do the same.
We recently discussed some replacement options the Chicago Bears could look into if they decide to remove Philips from the position. However, if the team decides to keep him on only the business side and hire someone to handle the football side, what about looking at bringing in Peyton Manning?
Manning has made it known he is interested in possibly running a team one day. He is more likely interested in becoming a general manager as opposed to a Vice President or President of Football Operations, but the Chicago Bears should look to give him the opportunity anyway. Plus, Chicago is not too far away from where Manning became famous for dissecting defenses in Indianapolis.
Manning has apparently been picking the brains of general managers over the last few years and maybe now it is time to put that research into practice. Manning was one of the most intelligent quarterbacks I have ever seen play. He was basically his own offensive coordinator.
When it comes to Matt Nagy and Mitch Trubisky, Peyton Manning actually thinks highly of them. In fact, Manning was a guest, motivational speaker for the Chicago Bears during the offseason. That said, I am not sure Manning would have allowed Ryan Pace to trade up one spot to draft Trubisky in 2017. I am not sure that Matt Nagy would still be coaching or Ryan Pace still handling the general manager duties with how the last two years have unfolded.
What I am sure of is that Manning would bring more to the table than what Ted Phillips brings from a football operations standpoint. Whether it is Peyton Manning or someone else, the key here is that the Chicago Bears need to separate the operations in the front office and bring in a football mind rather than constantly looking to outside consultants who have not amounted to any big changes for this franchise.
