Round 2, Pick No. 45

Alabama. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. AlexLeatherwood. 45. player. 829

After going with Jones in the first round, I have the Bears double-dipping with Alabama prospects selecting Alex Leatherwood. Leatherwood started getting buzz before the 2020 NFL Draft but smartly chose to stay for the 2020 season as he was showing struggles early on and has shown that he has improved on those struggles now.

Last season, Leatherwood was the starting left tackle for the Crimson Tide over 2020 first-round pick Jedrick Wills who was the right tackle. Leatherwood has great size, strength, length, and athletic ability to be an elite left tackle at the next level.

He is a great pass protector using his size and quickness to shut down fast and powerful pass rushers. He is a little raw, but his quick feet and agility help him greatly to protect Jones. He additionally has plenty of experience and it shows. After starting as a sophomore at guard, he switched to tackle as a junior and senior, and because of this, he is very good at keeping his head on a swivel and shows great vision as a blocker.

Leatherwood is good enough to be an immediate starter in Chicago. He would replace Charles Leno who should rightfully be cut with his contract not being worth it at all. Leatherwood would be the left tackle of the future and hope he can clean up his over-aggressiveness and technique to make him an elite tackle.
