Chicago Bears: 5 Landing spots for Mitch Trubisky in free agency
By Braden Fogal
It’s not a bird. It’s not a plane. It’s Mitch Trubisky saving fans in Dallas.
No. 4 – Dallas Cowboys
I know what readers are thinking about. Didn’t we just say that Trubisky needs to play on a team with a good defense to succeed? Yes, we did, but this is the exception. Dallas is a mess right now and hiring Mike McCarthy as head coach seemed like a smart choice until it wasn’t. McCarthy has seen Trubisky play during his days coaching the Green Bay Packers, which could either make or break the quarterbacks’ chances of sporting a star on his helmet in 2021.
Here’s the real reason. Both Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton are set to become free agents this offseason. Prescott is still recovering from his horrific leg injury, and as much as Jerry Jones might say he’s committed to the Cowboys quarterback, it’s tough to fully trust him.
Even if they ink Prescott to a long-term contract this offseason, the likelihood of him being ready for the start of next year is unlikely. The Cowboys could let the aging Dalton walk in free agency and sign Mitch Trubisky to a friendly prove it deal. You Can sprinkle in the offensive weapons of Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, which would all be terrific options for Trubisky.
The one thing to worry about is if Dallas’ offensive line can’t get back to full health, but that’s a conversation for a different day. If there was one division that Trubisky could find a way to win, it’s the NFC East.
