The Chicago Bears should have their eyes on 2021

After the devasting loss to the Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears continued their skid to a six-game losing streak dropping them to 5-7. After their fiery 5-1 start with an impressive win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Bears went on a losing streak losing to some tough teams but then falling to some below-average teams like the Minnesota Vikings and Lions.

The Bears likely will be cleaning house after season. They will likely fire Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace while potentially replacing Ted Phillips. This could result in a complete turnover of the staff. Therefore, the Bears should see what they have in their current players they haven’t seen much of in order to know if they are worth keeping.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are a great example of this. With the idea of tanking, they sat Nick Foles, although he was healthy, in favor of Gardner Minshew to see what they had in him in 2019. They saw what they liked and he earned the starting job in 2020. After that, they released former first-round running back Leonard Fournette with the idea of seeing what they had in undrafted free agent James Robinson.

It has paid off greatly for them as they found an above-average starting quarterback in Minshew who they may be able to trade away for capital or build around, and they found their running back of the future who is top five in the NFL in most running back categories.

The Bears should do something similar. They should sit some guys they know a lot about and may not even be here next year in favor of young guys they should see more. You never know when you could find a diamond-in-the-rough on your roster like Tom Brady.
