Chicago Bears: 4 Players who should play more now that the season is lost
By Joseph Herff
Riley Ridley, Wide Receiver
The former fourth-round pick of the 2018 NFL Draft has rarely seen the field for the Bears and people don’t really understand why. Well, for starters, Riley Ridley isn’t active on special teams, so having a backup wide receiver who doesn’t play special teams is a waste of a roster spot, but that is just fine if the Bears are trying to lose. Most game days, Ridley is inactive to open up a roster spot for other players. He has only played in three games this season seeing very limited action.
Coming out of college, Ridley was touted as arguably the best pure route runner of the 2018 class with his incredible transitions and quick feet. His brother, Calvin Ridley, is a star wide receiver now for the Atlanta Falcons. He additionally rarely dropped the ball and was extremely smooth on his routes and catching passes.
He isn’t incredibly fast, big, or explosive, so he is strictly just a possession receiver with little-to-no after-the-catch ability. However, he still can get open and catch the majority of his passes thrown his way. It would be silly not to play him at this point since the season is essentially over to see what they have in him, especially if Allen Robinson doesn’t come back. They will need players to step up.
