Chicago Bears: 4 Players who should play more now that the season is lost
By Joseph Herff
Kindle Vildor/Duke Shelley, Cornerback
Both of these two cornerbacks need to see significant time over Buster Skrine for the rest of the season. The mantra for every single offense against the Bears every week has been to target Skrine. Skrine has been horrible in coverage this season allowing 78.1% completion for 507 yards and five touchdowns. Quarterbacks targeting him post an impressive 125.7 passer rating, his highest-allowed in the past three seasons.
Skrine is likely to get cut next season to save money and due to him aging as we can see on the field. Both of these two cornerbacks were late-round draft picks who were extremely impressive outside cornerbacks who are likely too small to play the outside in the NFL.
Kindle Vildor is currently a rookie who was selected in the fifth round. He is an extremely athletic cornerback who didn’t get much notice due to playing at Georgia Southern, but he impressed in games against the few big schools. He is aggressive and solid in man coverage.
Duke Shelley was a sixth-round pick back in 2019. Even with his small size (5′ 9″), Shelley was a four-year starter for Kansas State on the outside at cornerback. He is extremely physical and aggressive even with his small size and he has extremely fluid hips to follow wide receivers.
There is very little chance either of these two corners could be any worse than Skrine right now anyway.
Other Players who should play more:
- Trevis Gipson, Outside Linebacker
- Arlington Hambright, Offensive Guard
- Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Inside Linebacker
