Counting down the Chicago Bears top-five plays heading into Week 14
Chicago Bears fans, we have had our patience tested all season long. We have had our hearts broken, dreams shattered and failures flaunted in front of us. A 5-1 start to the season was already being put through the shredder when the media called our offensive unit mediocre. And even though they proved to be right, we have remained loyal to the soil.
Loyal to the soil of Soldier Field, where the Bears will host the Houston Texans in Week 14. Place your bets now, what’s the over/under on how many times the TV announcers mention Mitch Trubisky being drafted ahead of Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes in 2017? Let me know on Twitter @BradenFogal.
Me being the devoted Chicago Bears fan that I am decided to search through 12 weeks of archives to find the absolute best 5 plays I could. I won’t talk to length how depressing that trip down memory lane was, but my goodness, what could have been if we selected Mahomes. I used to be scared of saying his name like Mahomes was Voldemort or something, but I don’t care anymore because he’s the prince who was promised. Congratulations, Arrowhead Addict.
It’s time Bears fans. I searched far and wide for these Top 5 Bears plays to give us some energy heading into Sunday. First I’d like to start with an honorable mention because that No. 5 spot was a tricky bugger.
Honorable Mention
Week 5 vs. Tampa Bay Ι Khalil Mack sacks Tom Brady on TNF and tosses 340-pound offensive lineman afterward just because.
Inject this sequence into my veins. Khalil Mack dogged Tom Brady all night long on prime-time television in Week 5 and then flipped first-round rookie offensive lineman, Tristan Wirfs like he was a sack of potatoes. I wanted this play in the top-five, but my only gripe is that it was a “Tom Brady Sack” which is a phrase used when the 43-year-old quarterback darts to the ground in fear because, well, he’s old and it’s Khalil freaking Mack.

The Kyle Fuller hit on rookie running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the same game was also in contention. On a 3rd &10 play with less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Jackson smoked Vaughn on a check down pass to force a fumble with the Bears trailing by six points after the rookie back was filling in for an injured Leonard Fournette during this matchup. We’re not used to seeing hit sticks from the cornerback position, but the former Virginia Tech Hokie made sure this hit was heard from outer space.

The hit was textbook and the outcome against the Buccaneers was even better because it resulted in a Bears victory. This play could have found its way into my top-five, but it is a play where Fuller just sat and waited for a defenseless rookie to come crashing into him and pushed the play just outside of my rankings. Now, let’s get started.
