Roquan Smith should be the leader of the Chicago Bears defense

The sixth, and final player on my list, is middle line-backer Roquan Smith. I think he, along with Jackson and Johnson are great building blocks to get through a rebuild with. Roquan, by most accounts, has been the best player on the field for this Chicago defense in 2020.

Roquan was the Bears’ most recent first-round pick all the way back in 2018. He has shown flashes in the past but most recently has looked like an All-Pro this season. He’s constantly leading the team in tackles and is all over the field, showing his impressive athleticism.

Smith was considered a can’t miss prospect coming out of Georgia and so far in his third-year looks to be living up to that billing. Chicago has always had some great luck in finding linebackers and Roquan looks to be the latest in a long line of fantastic linebackers for Chicago.

Final Thoughts:

While you can certainly argue that other players deserve to be on this list, I feel that these six guys are the ones who the Bears can start to build around. Guys like Mack and Hicks are getting older and don’t seem to be willing to go through a whole rebuild.

Someone I would consider an honorable mention for Chicago would be David Montgomery. Only in his second year and playing behind an awful offensive line, Montgomery hasn’t had a chance to show what he can really do. I think he’s a nice player but I would not give him another contract if it came down to that, which is what ultimately left him off of my list.
