Chicago Bears: Mitch Trubisky is smiling big after win over the Texans
The Chicago Bears dominate the Houston Texans and Mitch Trubisky is smiling
The Chicago Bears needed that victory badly. The team was able to end a six-game losing streak. However, is it too little too late? Right now the team is actually still in the playoff picture (I know, hard to believe). The team sits one game behind the Arizona Cardinals for the final spot in the NFC.
The thing is, it seems most of the fans on Chicago Bears social media want the team to lose at this point. Many would prefer a better 2021 NFL Draft pick than they would see the team win. This could be due to the fact no one believes the Chicago Bears are true Super Bowl contenders. Making the playoffs at this point as the seventh seed is essentially useless in the end as this team does not look like a team that will make noise in the playoffs let alone push for the Super Bowl.
Many fans also are at the point where they want to see the whole regime blown up. Fans are screaming for Ted Phillips on down to be removed, not just Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy. Some fans are even hoping that the McCaskeys up and sell the team (will never happen). The thing is, the players and coaches and general manager do not care what the fans want at this point. All they care about is playing football, fighting for victories and at the very least displaying their skills for a future contract(s).
After the 36-7 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, Mitch Trubisky was smiling from ear to ear (you can’t see it because of his mask).
On a day when the national media wanted to continue to compare Mitch Trubisky, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes over and over and over again, it was Trubisky who came out on top.
Go ahead and compare the quality of defenses each quarterback had to play against, I get it. However, Trubisky can only play the defense he is scheduled to play against. At the end of the day, Trubisky threw for 267 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 23 yards. Trubisky finished the day with a quarterback rating of 126.7 — the third time he has achieved over a 100 rating in the six games he’s started.
Deshaun Watson on the other hand threw for 219 yards and only one touchdown. He did not turn the ball over and finished with a respectable quarterback rating of 101.9. That rating did not mean much as the Texans could only score seven points and lost their ninth game of the season. Patrick Mahomes finished with the worst quarterback rating of the three at 91.9. He threw for 393 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions versus the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs won the game though and that’s most important.
Now, the point here is not that Trubisky is better than either of his 2017 NFL Draft counterparts, but he at least looked sharp for the second game in a row. Since returning as the starter, he’s thrown seven touchdowns and two interceptions. In the end, this will mean little for the Chicago Bears though. Trubisky is likely not coming back. If the team doesn’t make the playoffs, Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace will not likely be back either.
As the Chicago Bears season unwinds, it will be interesting to see if Mitch Trubisky will still have that smile. Will he prove himself worthy enough to get a new contract from the team that drafted him? Maybe he will show enough that another team will sign him to a decent contract knowing they can put him in a system that fits his playing style.
If we have learned anything, the Chicago Bears offense has finally found an identity with Bill Lazor calling the plays and Mitch Trubisky under center.
