What the Chicago Bears should ask for this Christmas
The Chicago Bears should wish for the offense to continue to succeed
After averaging roughly 17 PPG, the Chicago Bears’ offense has been lit aflame. The team has averaged 30.3 PPG these past three weeks. The offense has finally come alive, and there’s a lot to credit for that.
Mitch Trubisky has played very well since stepping back into the starting role. He hasn’t been perfect, but he’s played well enough to even speculate a contract extension.
He isn’t the only one who has stepped up. The Bears offensive line has played great. It seems the switch of Cody Whitehair to guard and Sam Mustipher to center has been a successful one.
Thanks to these improvements, the offense has averaged 383 total yards-per-game, according to Pro Football Focus. This has allowed the run game to open up more and give Trubisky more time in the pocket.
Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has also changed the script, making adjustments to fit the needs of his personal. Trubisky is spending less time in the pocket and taking smaller steps back to throw. His targets are closer and chipping away at the defense; the field is being opened up with a higher percentage of runs.
Everything clicked for the Bears last weekend. They need to wish for that to continue the next three weeks for Christmas. A subpar offense, blended together with a dominant defense, can make some noise in the playoffs.
