The Chicago Bears rushing attack continues to play well

For the fourth game in a row, Chicago Bears running-back David Montgomery goes over 100 all-purpose yards. David Montgomery has been one of the best players for the Bears this season but this most recent stretch of games has seen his play rise to another level.

The running back position is frequently thought of as the least valuable position in the NFL. That may be true for a lot of teams but Montgomery is a real weapon for this Bears offense. Even at the start of the year, he may not have had the best-looking numbers on paper but look a little deeper and you could see he was not the issue with the Bears rushing attack.

There is always talk about how running-backs can be a product of the offensive line in front of them, and David Montgomery’s situation is no different. The offensive line play of the Chicago Bears was horrible for about three-quarters of the season, which did not help his case.

Since offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, took over the playcalling, the line has looked much better and some much-needed changes have been made. Rashaad Coward has been removed from the starting lineup, and Sam Mustipher and Alex Bars have added some major stability to an o-line that was desperate for it.

David Montgomery is showing fans and the Bears, exactly what made Ryan Pace fall in love with the star running back. He’s closing in on a1,000 yards which would be the first time in his young career that he would reach the milestone.

Montgomery’s exceptional play over these last few games also further proves that head coach Matt Nagy was not adjusting his scheme to fit the players that he deploys. Montgomery has always struggled with Nagy as the play-caller but these last few games with Lazor calling the shots has led to a re-vitalized David Montgomery.

Monty has looked fantastic and shows no signs of slowing down, he’s among the league leaders in broken tackles, yards after contact, and is in the top 20 in scrimmage yards. After a brutal losing streak that derailed their season, the Bears have a puncher’s chance at making the playoffs and David Montgomery has been carrying the load over these last four games.
