Level of competition

I am not going to go to bat for Nick Foles, he was not good and was not a smart signing. Still, it is worth noting that the Colts, Bucs, Rams, and Saints are all top 10 defenses. Foles happened to face all of them going just 1-3. This is not to say that Foles has been better, but to say that Trubisky may have been fortunate that Foles took the brunt of the schedule away from him.

Even when Foles faced the Vikings, the offensive line was in a worse spot health-wise. Still, Trubiskyhas played two games against the Lions and played the Giants defense before they found their footing. He struggled against a poor Atlanta defense and turned the ball over multiple times against an average at best Green Bay unit.

So, Trubisky beat up on the Lions, and with an improved offensive line lit up the likes of Cameron Dantzler, Jeff Gladney, and Chris Jones, two rookies and an unknown.

Do not get it mistaken, Trubisky has played well and does deserve praise for the past four weeks, but the past two in particular. Still, Trubisky has done what he should do. He has played average to below-average against bad defenses. Minnesota is the best defense he played all year, and they are a shell of their old selves.

Looking forward, Trubisky will get Jacksonville and a potential Green Bay defense with nothing to play for. There is a good chance that the Bears go into the offseason with Trubisky missing the Bears four games against good defenses. The Bears are going to have to rely on how he has played against good defenses in the past.

They have to rely on why they needed to bench him, or bring in a replacement in the first place. They need to remember the red zone pick despite the win and not commit to Trubisky for the long term.
