Zach Wilson Ι BYU
The nickname for the BYU star quarterback is pretty great, but we hope that Zach Wilson doesn’t live up to his namesake in the NFL. Wilson emerged out of nowhere this year as he wasn’t too impressive in his two previous seasons dealing with injuries. It wasn’t until this year that we got to see fully healthy and dangerous Wilson that gives him the nickname “Mormon Manziel.”
As a freshman, Wilson was serviceable as a starter, but in his sophomore year, he took a step back and struggled mainly due to injuries and surrounding help. This season, Wilson got some help and got healthy as well and lit the college football world on fire.
Wilson has completed 73.1% of his passes for 3,274 yards and 30 touchdowns to only three interceptions. He has thrown for on average 298 yards per game. He additionally has run for 242 yards and eight touchdowns. Wilson reminds scouts of Mahomes with a fun style while playing quarterback. He makes crazy throws on the run that most NFL quarterbacks can’t even make.
Wilson’s NFL draft stock has risen greatly throughout the season. He went from expected to be a Day 3 pick to being in contention to be a top 5 pick according to some NFL Draft analysts. If he is in the Bears range to trade for, it should be no question that the Bears trade up to get this star. With his experience and ability to throw darts virtually anywhere on the field, he could be the Bears’ franchise quarterback they’ve been searching for.
