Could the Chicago Bears reconsider bringing in Cam Newton?
Many fans wanted the Chicago Bears to go after Cam Newton this past offseason. Seeing New England bring Newton in as the starting quarterback on such a cheap deal made fans even more upset. Then, Newton played well in his first two games of the season. In those two games, he was able to score five touchdowns and only threw one interception. People should have been skeptical though as four of those touchdowns came from the ground and only one through the air.
Since then, Newton has looked bad. Some say it might be due to him contracting COVID-19, but it has been weeks now and he has not looked any better. On the year, he has averaged only 183 yards per game through the air and has only thrown five touchdowns. Even worse, he has thrown 10 interceptions. The only positive is that he’s scored 11 touchdowns on the ground.
I was never on board with the Chicago Bears going after Cam Newton. Outside of his 2015 MVP season, he has been a below-average quarterback. In fact, Mitch Trubisky in all honesty is Newton’s equal outside of that MVP season too. Out of the three quarterbacks mentioned that the Bears could be a landing spot for, Newton is my least favorite. The segment had the Chicago Bears as the third likely landing spot after Washington and Baltimore.
