Would the Chicago Bears be interested in Jimmy Garoppolo if he is cut?

In this segment, it was predicted that Jimmy Garoppolo would be cut by the San Francisco 49ers. This definitely could be true as Garoppolo would cost the 49ers over $26 million dollars next season. However, should they cut him, he would only cost them $2.8 million in dead cap space.

Garoppolo has not lived up to expectations. Since leaving New England in 2017 via trade to the 49ers, Garoppolo has only played one full season (2019). He has dealt with injuries the other three years. In 2017, Garoppolo started five games, went 5-0 and the 49ers were excited about the team’s future. Unfortunately, in 2018, Garoppolo only played three games before going on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

Now, in 2020 he has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and has only played six games as of now. Unfortunately, talent does not matter if you are not available. This is why the phrase, the best ability is availability.

If we look at Garoppolo’s only full season in San Francisco, he played reasonably well. The team went 13-3 while Garoppolo threw for 3,978 yards, 27 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions. He finished the year with a 102 quarterback rating. If healthy, he’d easily be my first choice for the Chicago Bears if the 49ers cut him in the offseason. The segment had the Bears as the second-most likely landing spot behind a Patriots reunion and ahead of Washington.
