Is Germain Ifedi the Chicago Bears right tackle of the present and future?

After re-watching this game with the All-22 tape, I am beginning to believe that Germain Ifedi is a good, reasonably-priced replacement for Bobby Massie as the Bears’ right tackle after this season. In this game, he made a few mistakes, nothing major.

However, he made many more really good blocks than not good ones. It is in his favor that he has quicker feet than Bobby Massie but is possibly as strong. He also has 36-inch long arms to go along with his 6’6″ 311 lbs. frame. His biggest flaw when he played right tackle for Seattle was he had a lot of false starts. That has not been a problem in Chicago.

This season he is making $1,047,500 on a one-year deal. Bobby Massie for all his mediocrity is making $8.3 million this year and can make $9.3 million next year with the Bears. It seems quite possible to me that Germain Ifedi could be a real bargain for the Chicago Bears in 2021.

Given that it takes time for the guys on the offensive line to develop chemistry together, keeping him as their right tackle at a reasonable price makes plenty of sense. I can see Cody Whitehair and Germain Ifedi working together on the right side of the Bears offensive line, opening up some nice big holes for David Montgomery and friends next season.

A Chicago Bears 2021 offensive line with a new left tackle from the draft or free agency along with James Daniels at left guard, Sam Mustipher at center, Cody Whitehair at right guard and Germain Ifedi at right tackle could turn out to be quite the winning combination for the Bears offense.
