Chicago Bears: This is the most important week of Mitch Trubisky’s career
By Ryan Heckman
This is the most critical week of Mitch Trubisky’s career with the Chicago Bears
Stating that this is a big week for the Chicago Bears would be the understatement of the season. Who would have thought, after losing six games in a row and looking dead in the water, that the Bears would still have a chance at the postseason? Maybe Mitch Trubisky and the team thought it, but not many fans thought it.
Well, here we are. The Bears control their own destiny. The only thing standing between them and the postseason? The Green Bay Packers, led by likely MVP Aaron Rodgers and arguably the best receiver in football this season, Davante Adams.
On the other side is Mitch Trubisky, who has taken advantage of a second chance.
We’ve heard all about it the past few weeks. Matt Nagy has said how he has seen a totally different Mitch since being given another chance. Tight end Jimmy Graham told NFL Network a week or so ago how impressed he is with Mitch Trubisky being dialed in and showing he can take full advantage of this chance.
The team is behind him. He and the offense have put together four straight weeks of 30-plus points. Everything is going his way. It all comes down to Week 17. Either he plays well and the Chicago Bears beat the Packers, getting into the playoffs, or the stage is too big and he struggles, sending the Bears home for the year.
Don’t get it twisted. The defense has to be better than they were the last time these two teams played. That’s the first priority, hands down. But, assuming the defense doesn’t give up a pile of points, this game will be on the shoulders of Mitch Trubisky.
There have been plenty of rumors and reports about the Chicago Bears bringing Nagy back next year, along with Mitch Trubisky, because of how the team has responded to the six-game losing streak. But, what happens if the Bears fall on their faces in Week 17? Do both guys still come back? Is it just Nagy?
The future of Mitch Trubisky’s career could be defined by this week. Let’s look at the positive side, here. If he performs well, he’s earned another contract in Chicago. Whether or not you believe he’s the guy, this is all about Trubisky. He will have earned himself another gig in Chicago with a strong performance, and that’s a huge positive for Trubisky.
Not only will he have earned a new contract, but his confidence level will soar. A good game this week against the Packers could elevate Trubisky’s future play, quite honestly. It could give him the utmost confidence to continue playing better and improving. Even though that’s somewhat silly for a fourth-year quarterback to still need improving, that’s just the facts. This week could do wonders for Mitch Trubisky.
