The Chicago Bears address the offensive line by signing Austin Reiter

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has the Chicago Bears adding to the offensive line in 2021. They are not predicting the team sign an offensive tackle though. No, instead PFF has the Chicago Bears signing the Kansas City Chiefs center, Austin Reiter.

Reiter has played well for the Chiefs. This would also be another addition to the Bears from the Chiefs’ organization. I know that the Chiefs are the team everyone wants to emulate right now, but not every player, coach or administrator from that organization will pan out. Teams must be careful here and the Chicago Bears seem to be all-in on trying to be the new Chiefs, no matter how unsuccessful.

This would be an interesting addition. As much as I like what Sam Mustipher has done this season, adding a guy like Reiter would still be an upgrade. The problem I have with this signing is that Mustipher has proven more than adequate and I would prefer the Bears use any extra money in replacing Charles Leno and/or Bobby Massie should the team correctly decide to move on from one or both.

Reiter is ranked 72nd on PFF’s top-100 list. I would prefer that the Bears look to bring in Kelvin Beacham who is ranked 75th on this list. I view Beacham as a clear upgrade over Bobby Massie and he should not cost more than $5 million next season. Then the Bears can address left tackle and even a backup offensive lineman in the 2021 NFL Draft. Adding Beacham could also allow the Bears to take a quarterback in the first or second round.
