Chicago Bears: 3 Reasons the Bears should trade for Deshaun Watson
By Braden Fogal
No. 2, The Chicago Bears need Deshaun Watson’s leadership and desire to win
When you look at the Chicago Bears offensive unit, who’s the first player that comes to your mind as a team leader? The quarterback carousel of Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles has left the offensive unit without a consistent leader under center for quite some time. Even before them, would anyone consider Jay Cutler as a leader? The Bears need a quarterback like Watson to wear that “C” emblem on his uniform with pride and infuse the rest of the offense with it.
Looking at this 2020-21 Chicago Bears team, guys like Allen Robinson, David Montgomery and Darnell Mooney have made plays to energize this offense no matter the quarterback. When you lose a spark plug kind of player like Tarik Cohen to injury early on in the season, it becomes difficult to rely on Cordarrelle Patterson in the return game every week to put the offense in better scoring position.
When you watch a Houston Texans game, or even going back to Watson’s Clemson days playing in the National Championship, football fans see his will to win. He’s the kind of guy that can make plays with his arm and legs. A guy that has proven he can put a struggling offense on his back to compete in games. Put him on a team like Chicago with a talented defensive unit that hopefully finds a new play-caller in 2021 and see what happens.
