Chicago Bears: 2021 NFL Draft late-round quarterback targets
By Joseph Herff
Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
Kellen Mond is another player much like Ridder that has all the traits you want in a quarterback. He is another great late-round target that can potentially develop into someone solid in the NFL. Mond, like Ridder, has plenty of experience as a starter as he’s been the starter for three seasons.
Mond may not be the true dual-threat that Ridder is, but he does have great athleticism that is nearly necessary now for NFL quarterbacks. To go with his athleticism, he has great arm strength. He can hit nearly every throw on the field as well. Much like Ridder, he will make some incredible throws but then follow it up with some horribly-thrown balls and bad decision-making.
His accuracy is the main concern, but every year Mond was a starter, his accuracy improved. He went from these completion percentages each season: 57.3%, 61.6%, 63.3%. So, improvement is there, but his accuracy is still not where it needs to be at the NFL level.
If he cuts down on the bad decision-making and accuracy issues, he could develop into a solid starter as well. Again, he is much like Ridder that has a lot of upside but needs a lot of work if he wants to make it to the next level.
